SmartRIA: Putting Over a Decade of Entrepreneurial Experience into a SaaS Company

SmartRIA founder Mac Bartine joined the Wealth Preservation Podcast once more and shared his insight on building and scaling a SaaS company with a virtual workforce. Mac’s extensive experience in the startup world gives him keen insight on the common mistakes new companies make -- and bad company culture can derail a company’s progress. We discuss the work that went into starting the company, scaling to bigger clients, decentralizing the decision making, which roles were the first to be outsourced, and so much more. Mac also shares his views regarding mentorship and why it’s important to have many mentors -- not one mentor or coach -- many! Whether you’re a SaaS company, a legal firm, a blue-collar company, or anything in between, Mac’s experience as an entrepreneur is relevant to any business. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes how their unique skill set can be applied in multiple industries and how it unlocked their true potential. Mac’s extensive experience in the startup world gives him keen insight on the common mistakes new companies make -- and bad company culture can derail a company’s progress. Mac highlights the difference in workers through a fighting analogy: the soldiers, those who need to be told what to do, and the gorillas, the problem solvers that take initiative. When you’re a new startup, it’s the luck of the draw as to whether your hires are soldiers or gorillas, but as you grow, those smart gorillas can rise through the organization. Mac’s extensive experience in the startup world gives him keen insight on the common mistakes new companies make -- and bad company culture can derail a company’s progress. In this clip, Mac delves into the conundrum that if you’re not growing as a software startup, nobody will invest in your company. You either have to have an immediately profitable solution or need to bring in outside capital – but, if you’re not growing at a reasonable rate, nobody’s going to fork over money. SmartRIA: Is College Worth It for the Entrepreneurial?

SmartRIA founder Mac Bartine joined the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shared his experience as a serial entrepreneur who tried to do way too much, on his own, for way too long. His drive to solve problems and think creatively made him highly motivated as an entrepreneur, but it took a decade of side hustles before all of his experience came together to create a strong, healthy, and rapidly growing business. We are always wondering what the entrepreneurs, today, think of the college prospects to the entrepreneurial-minded. Mac recognized that college was more than just a place for him to learn from classrooms and lecture halls. Mac saw his undergraduate and graduate programs as life and people-skills-building experiences. He does acknowledge the shift in forms in (???) education and believes that, in today’s environment, a mature, driven, and goals focused person can still build a very successful life without a 4-year degree. 413 Media: Expanding Your Skills Across Multiple Industries

Savion Nehemiah built his marketing and branding company, 413 Media, after his dad joked with him that he partied so much that he needed to get paid to party. That joke turned into a revelation, an idea, and eventually a thriving business. In this clip, Sav shares that the pandemic impacted his business, and how, together with a ruptured Achilles – he needed new motivation and answers. He brainstormed new business avenues to pursue, and while 413 was his bread and butter, he couldn’t put all his eggs in one basket. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when guests are able to share their authentic story about becoming an entrepreneur out of necessity. Not every business is built with a combination of education, deep pockets, and meticulous planning. Most of the time, it’s necessity, grit, and a desire to create something unique.
